Introduction:

The specialty of blood transfusion medicine has evolved considerably in the last few years.

Yet INFORMATION ON AVAILABILITY OF BLOOD AND BLOOD COMPONENTS TO THE COMMON MAN, in planned as well as emergency situations is grossly hampered due to various aspects.

We still have to depend on, an inefficient, crawling telephone system, to obtain information on blood availability. This delay caused in procuring life saving blood components proves life threatening or even actually detrimental in many disaster situations where time is the difference between life and death.

Our Background

A team of young technocrats with experience in design and operations of world class commodity exchanges in collaboration with transfusion medicine experts propose to design a sturdy solution to this problem.

Aim :

TO CREATE A INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY SYSTEM ON BLOOD AVAILABILITY which is accessible easily and available 24x7 to any common man and its network integration with all regional blood center in Maharastra

Material and Methods:

This shall include dedicated and focused efforts towards -

A Developing a Comprehensive Blood Management Solution

B NETWORKING OF ALL MAJOR BLOOD BANKS IN MAHARASTRA STATE and also centrally

C Maintain blood inventory level on a real time basis

D Disseminate information to reach the common man

E Explore possibilities, to transport blood units on a SOS basis

Conclusion

A thorough understanding of blood collection and processing as well as inventory system of blood banks is essential for designing and efficient and fool- proof information system. Training of blood bank personnel to use this system and OPERATION A BLOOD HELPLINE 24X7 shall be taken up after
this. This public initiative shall be of great help to people in need of blood. This is also essential for disaster mitigation and effective management of this life-saving resource.

A COMMON INFORMATION GATEWAY ACROSS ALL BLOOD BANKS HAS TO BE SHARED WITH TRUST TO THE PUBLIC. AND CAN BE USED TO SAVE THOUSANDS OF

LIVES EVERY YEAR. IT IS OUR MORAL DUTY TO HARNESS INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY TO SAVE OUR BRETHREN.
